Do you ever find yourself doing the same things over and over again without achieving better or new outcomes? Waking up and sleeping at the same time, eating the same meal every day, wearing the same clothes day in day out or watching the same TV show everytime you turn your TV on? Repeating the same regimen everyday feels comfortable yet when your life becomes a routine you risk getting caught in a rut. Boredom takes over your life and you get burned out.
Eating disorders are quite rigid when it comes to daily routines. Most sufferers sleep and wake up at the same time, eat (if) the same food at mealtimes and think the same thoughts. If their routine is ruined, they freak out. Still, you do not need to suffer from an ED to be a rigid-routine-oriented individual.
Sometimes we are afraid of trying new approaches towards a particular situation. We are afraid to face the unknown so we stick to what is making us achieve little to no results. If we continue adapting the same approach every time, there would be no progress neither in your goals nor in your way of thinking. New approaches bring about new challenges. They stimulate a different train of thought. New challenges enable us to discover new psychological strengths and capabilities whilst producing several personal achievements.

When we control ourselves through rigid routines, we get to develop a certain way of thinking towards that particular routine and we lose passion and interest and we develop boredom. If we develop boredom towards our lives, we lose its meaning. Life should be kept interesting thus sometimes we should make use of our willpower and courage in order to spice things up.
So, next time you are about to cook, try a different meal. Visit a different coffee shop and make a new friend. Read a different genre of book or listen to a different style of music. Go to the gym in a different time of the day. Experiment with new clothing styles and hair colour. Learn a new language or subject. Try something which will create a twist to your usual routine.
Routine kills the strongest beast. It kills the spontaneity of life and develops unnecessary obsessions and misunderstandings. So, next time you find yourself caught up in a boring routine, take action, pluck up courage and try something new. Keep life exciting. That is the way it should be!
